Why Pop collections outgrow memory fast

Past about 30 Pops, “do I already have this one?” becomes a real question — and doubles at conventions, where a duplicate buy is money wasted. A tracker in your pocket, searchable by name, ends that: check the shelf before you pay.

Boxes matter for Pops, so photograph both: one shot in-box for condition, one out-of-box if you display it. TrophyShelf gives every collectible up to 10 photo slots — enough for box front, back, stickers and the figure itself.

Handle exclusives and chase variants properly

The sticker (SDCC, NYCC, store exclusives) and chase status are what separate a $12 Pop from a $200 one — and neither has a field. Put them at the top of the description and photograph the sticker. The AI reads the box and pre-fills the parts that do have fields: the box number and the licence.

Group by fandom: one collection per franchise (“Anime Pops”, “Marvel”, “Ad Icons”) keeps the shelf browsable and mirrors how you'd display them.

What a Pop actually gets recorded against

The type is Vinyl Figures — 🧍 in the picker. It is short, and one field on it is the one Funko collectors already use as an identifier.

Which type, exactly?

Vinyl Figures, not Action Figures. Both exist, both look plausible in the picker, and they carry different fields. Nothing stops you using either — but a shelf split across the two stops being searchable in one go, which is the whole point of having it at a convention.

What are its fields?

• Box number — the number printed on the box corner. It is the closest thing a Pop has to a catalogue number, and it is the field worth filling first.
• Licences — Marvel, Star Wars, whatever the figure is from.
• Category — 27 of them, in Funko’s own vocabulary: Ad Icons, Anime & Manga, Comics & Superheroes, Retro Toys, Video Games, and both Funko Originals and Funko Goods.
• Size / height — standard 7–8in, or whatever the oversized one measures.

Plus what every collectible carries: condition, a description, Paid, Est. value and Where acquired.

Where do chases and exclusives go?

The description — and this is the honest gap in the type. There is no chase field, no exclusive field and no rarity scale here. Rarity does exist in the app, but as a fallback for types that declare no fields of their own, and Vinyl Figures declares four.

So write it first in the description, in a form you will still recognise in two years: SDCC 2023 exclusive · chase. Then photograph the sticker. A convention sticker is a claim about provenance, and a photograph of one is worth more than the word “exclusive” typed into any box.

Is there a year field?

No, and that is deliberate across the whole app. A single universal “Year” asked every type the same question and meant something different in each answer — minted, dropped, printed, published — so it was removed, and the types that needed one gained a better-named field of their own. Vinyl Figures was not one of them. If the release year matters to you it goes in the description, next to the variant.
