Track Your Action Figure Collection

Updated September 2026ยท6 min readยทaction figure collection tracker

A carded figure is two objects — the card and the figure — and most trackers make you grade them as one. TrophyShelf gives each its own condition field, adds AFA and CAS grading on fields of its own rather than in a notes box, and has a variant field whose placeholder mentions first shots and missing COO stamps. Twenty fields, and the deepest collector schema in the app after watches.

Two conditions, because there are two objects

Every other category in this app gets one condition. Action figures get two, and it is the single best thing about the type.

Package condition runs Mint, Near mint, Light wear, Creased, Damaged, No package. Figure condition runs Mint, Near mint, Light wear, Played with, Damaged, Repaired. A carded figure with a creased bubble and a perfect figure inside is a real and common thing, and it needs two answers because buyers ask two questions.

๐Ÿ“Œ “Played with” being an option rather than a euphemism is a small sign that somebody who collects wrote this list.

What a figure records

The type is Action Figures — ๐Ÿฆธ in the picker — and at twenty fields it is the deepest collector schema in the app after watches.

Which fields identify it?

It grades figures properly — unlike comics or coins

This is worth saying plainly, because the neighbouring guides say the opposite. A comic’s CGC grade has to go in the description. A coin’s Sheldon grade has to go in the description. An action figure’s grade has four fields of its own:

The app’s Grading section belongs to trading-card types only, so this type carries its own inline instead — the same arrangement Baseball and Basketball use. The effect for you is that a graded shelf is sortable rather than searchable-by-eye.

What is the Variant field for?

The differences that are not visible in a photograph. Its own placeholder tells you who it was written for: First shot · regional variant · no COO.

A missing country-of-origin stamp, a first shot out of a factory, a regional release with different deco — these are the details that separate a common figure from one two people in the world want, and they are free text because nobody could enumerate them.

Beside it, Type covers provenance as a list: Standard release, Deluxe, Ultimate, Exclusive, Convention exclusive, Prototype, Sample, Pre-production. The last three are factory objects that never retailed, and having them as values rather than notes means you can find them all at once.

How should I photograph a carded figure?

Both objects, because you are recording both. The front of the card straight on, the back with the bio and the line-up, the bubble at an angle to show whether it has yellowed or lifted, and the figure through the plastic.

โš ๏ธ Do not open it to photograph it better. That is the one irreversible thing on this page, and Sealed status is a field precisely because the answer is worth money.

Action Figures and Vinyl Figures are separate types โ€” pick deliberately.

Do it in TrophyShelf

  1. Create a collection per line๐Ÿฆธ Action Figures in the picker. Marvel Legends, MOTU, S.H. Figuarts โ€” the line is how you shop, so it is how the shelf should split.
  2. Photograph the card and the figureCard front and back, bubble at an angle for yellowing, the figure through the plastic. Loose figures: all sides plus accessories.
  3. Fill franchise, line and yearThe AI reads what is printed on the card. Line is the one worth checking โ€” packaging does not always say it plainly.
  4. Grade the package and the figure separatelyTwo fields, two answers. If it is slabbed, set Graded, pick AFA or CAS, and record the grade and cert number in their own boxes.
  5. Use Variant for the invisible differencesFirst shot, regional release, no COO stamp. Free text, because nobody could list them all โ€” and it is what a serious buyer searches your description for.
