CLZ has been cataloguing collections since before the iPhone, and it is genuinely good at what it does. The real question is whether what it does covers what you collect. Where CLZ is better
Any comparison that finds nothing good to say about the other tool is a comparison worth distrusting. These are real, and they are the reasons to stay.
- Barcodes beat cameras on barcoded things. A scan is one motion and returns canonical data. If your shelf is mostly Blu-rays and paperbacks, that is simply the faster tool.
- Two decades of catalogue depth. Editions, pressings, credits and cover variants that a model reading a photograph will not reliably recover.
- Desktop software. Bulk editing, printing and field-by-field cleanup are all easier with a keyboard, and TrophyShelf has no desktop app at all.
- It ships on iPhone. TrophyShelf is on Google Play today.
Where TrophyShelf is better
- One app instead of five. A collector with Funko, cards and sneakers needs three CLZ apps that do not exist. Those are three of the 56 types here.
- Photo-first reaches what barcodes cannot. A loose figure, a graded card in a slab and a deadstock sneaker have no scannable code between them.
- The free tier is not a clock. Unlimited collections and unlimited collectibles, with 15 AI autofills a month.

Database-first, photo-first
CLZ starts from a catalogue. You find the entry that matches what you own and mark it yours, and because that entry was written and corrected by people rather than guessed from an image, its data is better than anything a camera produces — whenever the entry exists.
TrophyShelf starts from the object. You photograph what is in front of you, and the app resolves the type first — a Pokémon card, an action figure, a watch, one of 56 — then fills only the fields that type actually declares. A card gets a card number and a rarity. A figure gets a scale and an articulation count. Nothing has to exist in a database beforehand, which is exactly why it reaches items a catalogue never will.
Neither approach wins outright. They are better at different halves of a collection, and knowing which half yours is decides this for you.
Moving across
There is no importer, and that is worth being told before you start rather than discovering halfway. CLZ exports CSV per app; TrophyShelf has no CSV import today, so moving a collection across means photographing it again. For a shelf of a few hundred pieces that is an afternoon with a camera, and you end up with your own photographs rather than stock cover art. For a five-thousand-item media library it is the wrong trade, and CLZ is the better tool anyway.

Is TrophyShelf a drop-in replacement for CLZ?
No. For barcoded movies, books, music, comics and games, CLZ's scanner and database are faster and more complete. TrophyShelf is the better fit when your collection spans categories CLZ has no app for, or consists of items with no barcode at all.
Can I import my CLZ collection?
Not today. CLZ can export CSV, but TrophyShelf has no CSV import, so a move means re-photographing the collection.
Does TrophyShelf scan barcodes?
No. It reads the photograph and fills the fields that collectible type declares. That is what lets it handle things a barcode never covered.
Do I need a separate purchase per category?
No. One app covers all 56 types, and the free tier has no ceiling on how many collections or collectibles you keep.
